Clap your hands and say yeah!!!!

We have no option but to borrow the name of this band because the R.V. Vizconde de Eza crews (scientific and sailors) deserve an standing ovation. It has been a smashing day, no more no less than eight hauls with their CTDs, all valid. True, the weather was good, very foggy which means calm seas, but our success is mostly due to the fact that everybody has worked very hard since we shot the first haul at 6:00 a.m. Noelia's team (Yolanda, Javier and Rafa) is now finishing off the last haul, which consisted mostly of capelin and American plaice. Estíbaliz and Rai are sampling cod stomachs, but they have worked as well on Greenland halibut and American plaice, roughly about 100 stomachs sampled today. The deck has seen today several tons of fish come and go, and as we have been fishing the whole range from 50 to 800 we have seen nearly everything. We will give you some numbers tomorrow because today even Nair had to lend a hand with the fish, and leave aside for a while her data recording duties. But we can definitely give you our positions for the day:

and tell you that we got several tons of redfish, an Atlantic halibut weighting 11 kg, capelin was very abundant in a few hauls and we finally found some cod – not as much as to make a Mexican wave, but at least we got our sampling going and have bagged about 70 otolith pairs and similar number of stomachs. We have a picture of the contents of one of them but will watch out for the rigth time to upload it so you won't have to look at it while having breakfast. See instead Nair busy with the CTD.

So this is it for today, we have been up for ages and there's still some work to do. You let us know if you have won the lottery. We promise to find out what were the engineers up to today, we have seen them everywhere like a million times today. See you tomorrow...
